Sharks Boys Varsity Basketball Opens Up the Season Strong

The men's basketball team opened the season up with an 83-44 victory over East Palo Alto in the 58th Annual James Lick Invitational. Junior Cooper Scherr led the way with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman Sandor Rene Rodriguez added 16 points and 7 assists for the Sharks while Brian Dobler chipped in 12 points and 6 assists. Senior Garrett Saucedo led St. Francis with 14 rebounds.

St. Francis defeated host James Lick 58-36 to advance to the championship game of the James Lick Invitational for the fourth consecutive year. The Sharks jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never trailed. Cooper Scherr led the St. Francis attack with 25 points while Matt Clifton, Brian Dobler, and Josh Rodriguez all added 6 points. Dobler added 14 rebounds and Rodriguez grabbed 11 boards in the victory.

The Sharks suffered their first loss of the season falling to Wilcox (Santa Clara) 68-56 in the championship of the James Lick Invitational. Cooper Scherr led the Sharks with 21 points and was named to the All Tournament Team. Nick Wempe made his season debut and scored 16 points for the Sharks.
