The St. Francis boys basketball teams both beat North Monterey County on Monday night to continue their winning streaks and put the varsity record at 7-3.
The JV team won 77-69 in overtime. Ruben Ibarra led the team in points with 28, Braxton Peterson poured in 14 points and Dominic Figueroa chipped in 10 points in the win.
The star of the night for the varsity Sharks was Mark Hinojosa as he scored 27 points in his first game as a Shark. The final score ended up with a Shark win 57-48. North Monterey County played tough all game and took a lead into half time 23-19. In the 2nd half the Sharks hot shooting came to life as Nick Wempe hit a clutch 3 pointer to spark St. Francis. Hinojosa put the game away in the final minutes with a 3 pointer that put the Sharks up for good.
The Sharks look to continue their winning streak Wednesday night vs. Soquel in the Borina Athletic Center at St. Francis High School. The JV boys tip off at 4 pm, Girls varsity at 5:30 then boys varsity at 7:00 pm. Come out and support your Sharks.
