St. Francis boys basketball kicked off league play Wednesday night against the Soquel Knights with JV and varsity games. The JV Sharks beat the Knights 51-44. The stars of the night for the JV team were Jason Kane and Pete Elizalde who each scored 9 points.
The varsity game did not go the Sharks way as defending league champion Soquel won 58-48. Mark Hinojosa had an excellent night for the Sharks as he had 24 points, 8 rebounds and three assists. Cooper Scherr added 12 points for the Sharks. St. Francis was down 14 points in the first half and was able to cut the Soquel lead to 5 in the 4th quarter, but the Sharks comeback fell short.
The Sharks take the court again on Saturday at Scotts Valley. JV tip off will be at noon, the varsity girls play at 1:30 pm and then the varsity boys tip off at 3 pm. Come out and support your Sharks.
