Sharks Boys Basketball Lose Heartbreaker in Overtime

The St. Francis boys basketball season ended on Wednesday night with a heartbreaking overtime loss to Woodside Priory 55-53. Senior Mark Hinojosa put the Sharks ahead of the game in the early going with some excellent shooting, but then Priory came back and cut the lead to down only 2 points at halftime. The second half was more back and forth basketball with Priory taking a late lead. In the final seconds of regulation with the Sharks down junior Cooper Scherr hit a clutch 3 pointer to put the game into overtime. It was then in overtime where Priory came out on top of a hard fought well played basketball game.

We'd like to congratulate the Shark seniors Ricky Carrera, Mark Gugale, Austin Nethercutt, Matt Clifton, Garrett Saucedo, Mark Hinojosa, Matt Powers and Jonathan Carmona for stretching the run of 7 years in a row of making at least the CCS Division V Semifinal Round. These student/athletes have had great careers at St. Francis and been a part of a lot of success both on and off the court. Also this group was a big reason of why the 2011-12 team has a CCS Finalist banner raised in the Borina Athletic Center as many of them were on the varsity squad as sophomores. Please congratulate these young men on their fine effort and tremendous season.
