The St. Francis Sharks beat Christopher 55-30 to win the 1st Annual Solis-Miles Invitational Championship at Alisal High School. Sophomore Chase Watkins led the Sharks with 17 points while pulling down 7 rebounds to earn the tournament MVP award. Fellow sophomore Jason Gallo notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
St. Francis trailed 9-5 with 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter but held the Cougars (2-1) scoreless for the next 13 minutes. The 27-0 run gave the Sharks a commanding 32-9 lead at halftime. Ivo Lasich and Chase Vargas chipped in 7 points each while Sandor Rene Rodriguez added 6 assists.
In the semifinal game, Ruben Ibarra scored 8 of his team high 12 points and helped fuel a furious Sharks comeback to beat St. John's College (New Zealand) 41-37. Rodriguez and Figueroa added 9 points while Gallo pulled down 12 rebounds to lead St. Francis.
St. Francis is now 3-0 and will play at home on Thursday night against Trinity Christian at 7:00. Go Sharks!
