Dear St. Francis Grandparents & Grand-Friends,
I am happy to invite you to participate in our 4th annual Grandparents & Grand-Friends Day celebration. Please click on flyer at the right for times and details. For some of you, this will be your first experience at St. Francis while for others you are as much a part of the tradition of this school as our storied alumni.
In 2016 grandparents, whether through blood, marriage, adoption, even just a special friendship with a child, play a significant role in the lives of their grandchildren. September 9th we will honor and welcome you into our school as active members of our St. Francis family. On this day we want to formally cherish the unique and special relationship you have with each and every one of our students.
Of course, grand parenting today is far different than even just a generation ago. As our society becomes more mobile, families and extended families are be strewn from coast to coast, even around the world, and everywhere between. But distance is no longer a barrier to keeping close with your grandchildren or even just keeping up with their busy lives. With all the remarkable and revolutionary technology today, it’s easier than ever to stay connected —through TWITTER, FACEBOOK, & INSTAGRAM; I know many of you schedule weekly video chat sessions through SKYPE, too.
On the other end of the spectrum, a growing number of grandparents are taking on an even more active role by raising their grandchildren. Research shows that more than 1 million children in the United States are living with grandparents without either parent present in the home. Some of you even help with class projects, check homework, attend parent-teacher conferences, and go to Sunday mass as a multi-generational family. I am a living example of this as my boys have their Nana, my mother-in-law, living with us.
On September 9th you are invited to join us for a student welcome, attend mass, and eat lunch with your grandchild. Our celebrants for mass will be Father Ted Montemayor, the Salesian Provincial and our beloved Campus Minister, Father David Purdy. We will provide a picnic lunch for you and encourage your grandchildren to bring their own lunch and join you on the patios near the art room or by the lake. Please be sure to RSVP by Friday, September 2 to Ms. Lina Silva at 831 724-5933, or email her at [email protected].

As you will witness today, we are committed to excellent outcomes for all of our young people. As our sign says, we foster excellence in all aspects of school life – academics, arts, athletics, service, leadership, and faith formation – in partnership with you and the parents.
