St. Francis has 8 Players Represented on All BFL Football Team

Congratulations to the St. Francis football team as 8 Sharks were chosen to the 2016 All BFL 1st Team. The Sharks finished the year 6-6 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2009. The Sharks lost to St. Patrick St. Vincent of Vallejo who will play in the North Coast Section Final this weekend. Leading the way for the Sharks were a pair of seniors Richie Martinez as a Running Back and Andrew Ciandro as a Linebacker. Martinez finished the year with 1,043 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns. Ciandro led the team in tackles for the defense. Both Martinez and Ciandro were three year varsity starters for the Sharks and are standouts on the Sharks baseball team and Martinez also wrestles at St. Francis.
 
Other Sharks who were chosen to the 1st Team All BFL were senior Offensive Linemen Jerome Lumicao and Noe Madrigal and a junior Offensive Lineman Josh Kovacs. The three teamed up for a great front line who paved the way for Martinez to rush for over a 1,000 yards and also helped the team average 6.3 yards per rush on offense and an average of 291 yards per game on offense. They also blocked great in the passing game as the Sharks QBs combined to throw for 11 Touchdowns and only 1 Interception on the season. Kovacs also had 3 interceptions at his Linebacker position on defense. Madrigal was a 3 year starter for the Sharks and 4 year Letterman. Lumicao is a 2 year starter for the Sharks and 3 year Letterman. Both are members of the St. Francis Track & Field team. Kovacs is a 3rd year Letterman and 2nd year starter. Kovacs also a member of the Sharks varsity baseball team. 
 
On the defensive side of the ball was senior Zachary Estrada as an All League Defensive Lineman and junior Mario Velasquez as an All League Defensive Back as well as Ciandro. Estrada another 3 year starter for the Sharks who was also a four year varsity letterman anchored the defensive line. Velasquez had 2 interceptions on the year and had 2 touchdowns from his Wingback position on offense.
 
The Sharks Special Teams was also represented as Senior Chris Copriviza was named All League Punter. Copriviza also started at Cornerback for the Sharks and is also standout soccer player and golfer on the St. Francis teams.
