From the Assistant Principal of Academics

Hello, Parents and Students!

The first semester is complete and we are rapidly approaching the midpoint of the third quarter.  Semester one report cards were mailed home on January 13th and remain available for viewing on RenWeb.  Please note that the beginning of the third quarter represents a completely new grading period.  Grades earned during semester one do not carry over to semester two.

Congratulations to our Honor Students!  One hundred four (104) of our students earned first honors by maintaining a GPA greater than or equal to 3.5.  Fifty-six (56) of those 104 students were honored at the 4.0 Luncheon on January 26th.  An additional 53 students earned second honors by maintaining a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5 over the first semester.  Honors certificates were mailed home with report cards on January 13th.

At this time of year, we begin to look forward to the scheduling of classes for the 2017-2018 academic year.  With this in mind, please review the course selection timeline:

  •   February 6 - Course Catalog will be posted on the St. Francis website.
  •   Week of February 6 - Classroom visits to explain the course offerings.
  •   February 16 - Course selection sheets are due (both hardcopy and electronic).

Please be sure to review the course offerings and course catalog, and return your completed course selection sheets to the front office by the February 16th deadline.  It is vitally important that we receive the course selection sheets in a timely fashion so that we may properly plan for 2017-2018.

All students will be strongly encouraged to take a full, seven period class schedule for 2017-2018.  Exceptions will be made for those students taking multiple AP or Honors classes, and students with documented learning differences.

We are excited to offer two new additions to the course catalog this year:

Biomedical Science Pathway- Medical Interventions (10 units, 2 semesters)

11th-12th grade

UC / CSU approval pending

Latin 3 (10 units, 2 semesters)

11th-12th grade

UC / CSU approval pending

Full description of these two courses will be available in the Course Catalog.

Our school continues the enriching process of accreditation through the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA).  February 17th has been set aside as a work day for faculty and staff to complete tasks towards this accreditation.  Students have this additional day off to begin their winter break, although some students, parents, and board members will be joining us for the WCEA discussions.  Our accreditation visit will occur in March 2018.

Thank you for continuing to support student learning!  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

David M. Cmaylo
