Congratulations to the St. Francis Men's basketball team for a wonderful ride that took our school all the way to the State Finals in Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, the brand new home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings. The Sharks story book season came inches away from being capped off with a state title as the final shot hit the rim and bounced out at the buzzer. The final, Rolling Hills Prep 47 and your St. Francis Sharks 46. It was a game with over 12 lead changes, every loose ball had players diving and every rebound fought for. Hundreds of Sharks fan made the trip from Watsonville for the game and many more watched all over the state on television on Comcast Sports and even more online through spectrum sports.
Jason Gallo for the Sharks earned a medal for his individual play as he scored 15 points on the night and pulled down 7 rebounds. Sandor Rene Rodriguez had 6 points and 10 assists, Ivo Lasich hit three 3 pointers for 9 points on the night, Chase Watkins also scored 9 points for the Sharks and Riley Scherr and Domonic Figueroa each hit key 3 pointers.
The Sharks end the season with 30-3 record, the most wins in school history and the first Nor Cal Regional Championship in school history. The Sharks also won the SCCAL regular season championship going undefeated, won the SCCAL tournament and the CCS tournament. For seniors Sandor Rene Rodriguez, Dominic Figueroa, Ruben Ibarra, Ivo Lasich, Riley Scherr, Jason Kane, Joseph Kovacs and Nick Munoz their time as Sharks basketball players is done, but not before they left a great legacy for this behind them. A 30 win season in 2016-17, a 20 win season in 2015-16 and a 22 win season in 2014-15 totaling 72 wins over the last 3 years for St. Francis basketball. We thank you seniors and please know you will always be Sharks!
