From the Athletics Director

Mark your calendar for two opportunities to watch our alum Ty Sambrailo play NFL games in the bay area. The first is in a preseason game August 19th vs. the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. St. Francis High School will be selling sideline upper deck tickets to the game for $40 that can be bought in the main office and $20 of the ticket will go back to support St. Francis football. The face value of the tickets is $59. Tickets are limited so act quickly before we are sold out. The second opportunity to see Ty locally is on November 26th as the Broncos are at the Oakland Raiders for an AFC West showdown. Come out and our alumnus and St. Francis High School football!

This summer St. Francis High School athletics is offering swim lessons for children ages 4 and up. Please take a look at the link below for times, dates, and prices for the lessons. This is a great way to get children learning to swim from our own expert Swim Coach Darlene Friedley.

Thanks to all who supported the 2017 Golf Tournament! We had a great event and raised more money than last year for St. Francis Athletics! Thank you to Mr. Jeff Kane for leading the committee. It was a great improvement in participation and sponsors, and please mark your calendars for next year’s Golf Tournament on June 1st, 2018 at Spring Hills Golf Course.

Now it’s time to get ready for our 3rd Annual Luau at St. Francis. This year the Luau will be on Sunday August 20th from 4-8pm at St. Francis High School. Hope to see you there!

Now that the school year is over we can reflect on a great year that our athletics programs had. This past year our student-athlete average GPA was a 3.3199 and we had 81% of our students participate in athletics. We also had 11 varsity teams qualify for the postseason, both boys and girls basketball made the CCS Finals and into Nor Cal and the boys made it all the way to the State Finals. Our baseball team made it all the way to San Jose to the CCS semi-finals and got to play in Municipal Stadium the home of the San Jose Giants. Every fall sport made the postseason, the first time since I’ve been Athletic Director we’ve accomplished that. Thank you so much to the Class of 2017, it was your leadership that made all of this possible and please know you are Sharks for Life!

As we move onto the 2017-18 school year some sports will have summer workouts. Football and Volleyball workouts have begun. Boys and girls Basketball and Cheer will also have open gyms. Please check the Athletics Calendar on www.stfrancishigh.net for times for workouts. To take part a student/athlete must be registered at St. Francis, have a valid physical that must be completed every year and have taken the baseline concussion test. The physical forms can be found here:

We are also running fundraisers for our Football/Cheer trip to Oregon to take on La Salle High School. Any questions feel free to contact Athletic Director Adam Hazel (extension 207) or Head Football Coach, Mr. John Ausman (extension 154). Also all student-athletes must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the school as well as parents current on tuition/fees. Those student-athletes who will be on this special trip need to make sure they have a government issued ID to board the plane. Incoming freshmen and parents for Football or Cheer please contact Adam Hazel for more information regarding the trip.

Alumnus Sahid Valenzuela was Named the Big West Freshman Infielder of the Year and to the Freshmen All-American Team at Cal State Fullerton; the Titans are now onto the Super Regional where they will take on Long Beach State for a berth in the College World Series in Omaha. Please check the ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU schedule for game times. Also Caroline Casper who now plays tennis at Pomona-Pitzer made it all the way to the quarterfinals at the NCAA D-III singles tournament at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Casper, the No. 3 seed, beat Chicago’s Ariana Iranpour 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in the first round and Johns Hopkins’ Ashnaa Rao 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

Thank you all,

Adam Hazel
