Dear St. Francis Families,
Winter sports are now in league play and spring sports are on the horizon. Winter sports are off and running here at St. Francis as our girls soccer team is off to the best start in school history with a 7-1 overall record as they went undefeated in non league play. A strong group of seniors have led the charge for St. Francis as they have entered league play and will continue to compete for a playoff spot in the SCCAL. The next league game for the girls is January 16th vs Santa Cruz. Boys soccer had a big win over Trinity Christian in non league and is currently 1-5-1 on the season after falling to Scotts Valley in their SCCAL opener. The next game for the boys is January 17th at Santa Cruz.
Wrestling is fresh off a win over Soquel to open the SCCAL schedule. Also Felipe Padia-Noriega finished 4th place at the highly competitive Apple Cider Classic at Watsonville High School over the break. The next league dual meet is at Scotts Valley on January 17th.
Girls basketball is currently 7-7 and 2-2 in SCCAL play. The senior led team has big wins over Christopher, Watsonville, Pajaro Valley, University Prep, Harbor and twice over SLV. Also the girls JV team won the King City tournament over the break. The Sharks next take the court in SCCAL play on January 16th at Aptos. Boys basketball has a 10-3 record and are 3-1 in SCCAL play. The Sharks finished 2nd place in the Gilroy Tournament and 2nd Place in the Balboa Invitational in December and are looking to make another run at a SCCAL and CCS title. The freshmen boys team won the Watsonville tournament over the break and the JV finished 2nd in their bracket for the Watsonville tournament.
As always, please check the Athletics page on the St. Francis website for updates, scores and schedules for Shark athletics. Thank you all for your support!
The spring sports parent meeting has been moved to Tuesday January 23rd at 6 pm and will begin in the Art room E-1 so we do not disturb basketball practices. Spring sports offered at St. Francis are for girls: softball, track & field and swimming. For boys: baseball, track & field, swimming and newly added boys volleyball. Also we have a Co-ed golf team.

If your student is interested in any of these sports, whether she/he has played them before, please come to the Art room (E-1) on January 23rd at 6 pm. If you are unable to make it or have any questions please contact Athletic Director Adam Hazel at [email protected]. As said above we are happy to announce the start of boys volleyball. This spring the team will compete in the SCCAL with a JV schedule.
Our major athletic events are coming up so mark your calendar for the Luau on April 21st and the Golf Tournament on June 1st at Spring Hills Golf Course. Shortly mailings will be going out to the St. Francis community to promote each event.
