Congratulations to Chloe Deleissegues on winning the CCS Female Scholar Athlete of the Year! Chloe also earned the SCCAL Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Chloe was a 4 year member of the varsity basketball team and 4 year member of the varsity track & field team while carrying a 4.55 GPA.

Congratulations to the 121 Breakfast of Champions! The event recognizes scholar athletes who have a 3.0 GPA or above and played a varsity sport the spring of 2017, fall of 2017 and or winter of 2017-18.

Congratulations to Justin Parker and Hunter Blinkenberg as they became the first two St. Francis wrestlers to win league titles in their weight class. Parker a junior and Blinkenberg a sophomore also qualified for the CCS tournament along with sophomore Roderick Howe and sophomore Isaac Davila. Davila became the first Shark wrestler to get to day two of the CCS tournament in the heavyweight division. Congratulations to the wrestling program!

Your Sharks basketball season ended with both teams in the CCS semi finals. The girls team fell to Woodside Priory 68-55 who now is in the State Title Game. The girls have reached the NorCal tournament 4 of the last 6 years and made it to the CCS semi finals in all 6 of those years. The girls team beat Stevenson 71-66 in the quarterfinals. The All SCCAL team had 3 Sharks represented as junior Janessa Yniguez was 2nd Team All SCCAL and seniors Janiya Sevilla and Chloe Deleissegues were Honorable Mention All SCCAL. The boys beat Nueva in the quarterfinals 54-53 and then fell at Pinewood in triple overtime. Over the last four years the boys team has won 92 games and seniors Chase Watkins and Jason Gallo finished as the #1 and #2 scorers and rebounders in school history. Both Watkins and Gallo made 1st Team All SCCAL. Junior EJ Kelly made 2nd Team All SCCAL and junior Andrew Seymour made Honorable Mention All SCCAL. Coach Ed Kelly also took home Co-Coach of the Year for the SCCAL. St. Francis girls soccer finished with the most wins in school history and had two girls on the 1st Team All SCCAL in seniors Katie Farley and Clare Tershey. Junior Riley Croghan made 2nd Team All SCCAL and senior Samantha Bellucci, senior Savannah Guel and senior Avery Croghan made Honorable Mention All SCCAL.

Spring sports are underway as your St. Francis girls swim team for their win over SLV to start the year. The Girls Varsity won 92 vs. 75 points. Katie So won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Maya Talavera won 100 butterfly and 2nd in 200 IM. Ebony Held won the 200IM and 2nd in the 100 freestyle. Sam Held won 100 freestyle and 2nd in 100 breaststroke. On the boys side, SLV won the meet, but many Sharks shined as Frank Song won the 100 breaststroke. Gio Garcia won the 100 butterfly and the 200 Medley Relay of Roderick Howe, Jesse Robinett, Gio Garcia and Jake Taylor won the event.

The golf team under Coach Doherty has had a few rainouts and hope to take the course soon in SCCAL play. Go Sharks!

The track & field team is off to a great start as they had a successful meet at the Garlic Track & Field Invitational. Justin Parker won the 200m with a time of 24.46 seconds. Devlyn Gomez finished 1st place at the meet in the frosh/soph division and 2nd on the all time St. Francis list to Samantha Bellucci with a 4’8” high jump. She also finished 4th in the long jump at 13’7” and 4th in the triple jump at 29’6.” Bellucci won the high jump at 4’8” at the Santa Cruz Coast Relays and Miguel Aguilar cleared a lifetime best of 7’ in the pole vault.  

Our boys volleyball team is in their first season in school history and playing as a JV team. The first win in school history was vs. Soquel.

Congratulations to your St. Francis softball team on their 22-2 win over Pajaro Valley. The Sharks had a big 3rd inning scoring 11 runs taking control of the game. Pitching for the Sharks were Shelby Velasco and Carlotta Ciandro. Velasco pitched 2 innings striking out 4 and Ciandro pitched 3 innings striking out 5. The Sharks offense was led by Anna Noto as she had 2 hits and 5 RBIs, Audrey Hernandez also had 2 hits on the day, Claire Cagnacci had 2 RBIs as well as Lena Ciandro had 2 RBIs.

The Sharks would have opened SCCAL play taking on Soquel on Wednesday March 21st, but that game was postponed .  

Your Sharks baseball team finished 2nd place in the Milpitas tournament. The team beat Pioneer 10-4 to advance to the Milpitas Tournament Final vs a team TBD. Felipe Padia-Noriega was the winning pitcher with 5 innings pitched where he gave up only 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 base on balls and had 5 strikeouts. At the plate for the Sharks Derric Estrada-Haro went 2-4 with 2 RBI, Blaise Magana went 1-1 with a double and 3 runs scored and Tanner Putnins was 2-2 with 5RBI on the day. St. Francis is now 2-0 on the season.
