From the Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Dear St. Francis Families,

At our monthly assembly on Thursday, May 4th 7:50 am, we will be celebrating and exploring our roles as servant leaders. God calls us to serve one another. It is through serving others we grow closer to God and gain a fuller picture of His plan for us. At the assembly we will have guest speaker Marc Monte of the Monte Foundation. Mr. Monte has devoted a big part of his life giving back to the community and serving youth. All are welcome to join us.

Roman 12:9-11
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

Christian Service Hours
All Sharks are required to complete 20 hours per year of serving the greater community. Senior hours are due April 26, 2018. If hours have not been turned in seniors are in jeopardy of not completing a graduation requirement.

If a Junior, Sophomore, or Freshman are behind in their hours they need to use the summer months to catch up. Students and parents can check service hours on Ren Web. Click on “Family”. Then click on the student’s name. If you see any discrepancies contact Mr. Croghan at [email protected]

Mary Help of Christians
May is the month we dedicate to honoring our mothers, especially our heavenly Mother Mary. Don Bosco had a very special relationship with Mary. He would pray to her regularly for her guidance and protection. We will host a very special event on May 18 called Marian Day. This is a long-standing tradition in Salesian schools.

We will begin the day with mass at 7:50 in the BAC presided by Fr. Beto. All are welcome. Following mass, we will have a celebration day for the students including the Megladon challenge (seniors challenge staff to a sporting event), yearbooks will be handed out, and a festival day including games, swimming, food, and music. This is an important day to come together as “family” and celebrate the pillar of playground. Parents can donate fruit and desserts (no brownies please) for volunteer hours. Contact Shannon McLeod with questions.

Sacred Space for Mary
During the month of May we will have a special space to honor Mary. On the outside windows of the gym foyer there will be a place to quietly sit, contemplate, and pray. Vases are present for anyone who would like to offer flowers. There will be rosaries and printed prayers available. All are welcome to take a moment to slow down and open your heart.

SF Sharks can also volunteer at this camp to get service hours.

Baccalaureate Mass
Friday, May 25, 6:30pm at Our Lady Help of Christians
Join us for this special mass to honor and bless the Class of 2018. Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians. Our presider will be Bishop Ryan. All are welcome.

Campus Ministry Applications for 2018-19
The Campus Ministry team is comprised of up to 16 upperclassmen whose responsibility includes working with the CYM to create an atmosphere and opportunities for our community to grow in the Christian life. Applications are currently being accepted for the Campus Ministry team for next school year. The team will be announced and presented to our community at the Marian Mass on May 18. Please pray for our youth as they discern and apply to be a part of God’s good work.

Go Sharks,
